The museum and the YouTube Play

  • Sharebar

The Guggenheim museums have joined forces with YouTube and HP to launch a new contest, YouTube Play: A Biennial of Creative Video, which is on the look-out for ‘exceptional talent’ and the ‘new creative video’.
The competition is open until 31st July and the organisers are seeking submissions from the ‘global online community’. Videos have to be accompanied by a written statement, and must not run longer than 10 minutes.
“Creative online video is one of the most compelling and innovative opportunities for personal expression today,” said Solomon R Guggenheim director Richard Armstrong. “The project team came together to inspire and encourage the creation and celebration of this art form. YouTube Play demonstrates this is within the reach of anyone who uses a computer and has access to the Internet.”
Up to 20 videos will be selected by a jury of artists and be presented at the Guggenheim Museum in New York on 21st October. In addition, there will be simultaneous presentations at the Guggenheim museums in Berlin, Bilbao, and Venice.
