The top 10 artists – as championed by established DJs, artists and tastemakers – include Delilah, Beth Jeans Houghton, 2:54, Dot Rotten, Niki & the Dove, Charli XCX, Theme Park, Jessie Ware, King Charles and Spector.

Broadcaster Eurosport has launched its first on-air QR code campaign across Europe to enable viewers to access online and mobile tennis content during live coverage of the Australian Open. The campaign runs daily until 29 January on the flagship Eurosport channel, aiming to send fans to Eurosport.com’s Livescore app for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. Livescore provides score alerts, results and match schedules to complement viewers’ TV experience during the Australian grand slam tournament.

Social TV is already a big trend, with 61% of global respondents to Motorola Mobility’s 2011 Media Engagement Barometer study saying they have already discussed a TV programme with friends via a social network.
Users have preference for accessing a social TV service using a PC, smartphone or tablet (43%) rather than via a television set using an on-screen menu (40%).

Consumers in fast-growth markets are finding their online voice online, according to TNS’s Digital Life study. Forty four percent of the Internet population in Turkey are writing their own blog every week, as are 43% in China and Mexico, and 39% in India. The only developed market to come close in terms of the sharing of views is Italy, where 40% of online Italians update their blogs each week (compared to 14% in the US and UK), says Steve Mullins.

In 2012, video which had previously been consumed online, including YouTube clips, webisodes, and professionally curated content by established media companies will begin to ‘reverse-migrate’ to the living room, says Millward Brown in its Top 12 Digital Predictions For 2012 report.
“Slingbox, Roku, Boxee, Apple TV, and Google TV are all attempting to bridge the capabilities of the Internet and the sacred living room experience,” says the report. “However, only a few of these have begun to scratch the surface of a truly dynamic and immersive multimedia experience.

France is Europe’s most highly penetrated connected TV market, with 18% of French consumers already owning such a device – compared to 11% of Germans and 10% of Brits – according to YouGov. But the fact that consumers can already connect to the Net on their TV via other devices such as games consoles is a significant obstacle to smart TV take up, says the research firm. Fifteen percent of the UK population owns a Microsoft Xbox 360, and 13% has a Sony Playstation 3.
