The value of worldwide cinema box office in 2010? $31.8 billion, up from $25.5 billion in 2006, while global TV and film spend was some $300 billion last year, compared to $200 billion 10 years earlier, according to The Sky Is Rising entertainment industry report from Floor 64.


Hunger for fashion

hunger-fashionLionsgate Studios has launched a blog on Tumblr, CapitolCouture.pn, to curate content for a community looking to follow fashion trends in the Capitol, the setting for the action for the film The Hunger Games – based on the book of the same name – slated to premiere in March, writes Maria Stadtmueller.

“Whether you’re a Capitol fashionista seeking inspiration for your latest look, or a District citizen tracking rumours about the Tributes and other celebs, Capitol Couture is the only place to turn for pictures and news reports on the fashion, trends and lifestyle that make Capitol living so grand,” says an intro on the website.


Grazia outsources the mag

graziaStyle magazine Grazia is looking to crowdsource content for its upcoming London Fashion Week issue. Together with LG Mobile, the Bauer Media publication will open up its editorial to readers via social media channels such as Facebook, YouTube and Twitter. There will also be a Grazia Fashion Issue… Live! documentary series, covering the creation of the issue.


Hunger for the Games

hunger-gamesLionsgate Studios and games developer Funtactix are launching The Hunger Games Adventures, a social gaming title which will open in concert with the film adaptation of the Suzanne Collins’ bestselling novel The Hunger Games in March, writes Steve Mullins.

Players of the game will be able to explore the world of Panem – the setting for The Hunger Games trilogy – and complete missions that will take them to each of the ‘Districts’ and the ‘Capitol’ where they will interact with characters from the story.

Paying for Net film

iplayerTwo thirds of UK consumers respondents are prepared to pay for films online, according to the Media & Entertainment Barometer from KPMG. The survey, conducted by YouGov, also indicates that BBC iPlayer has the highest level of awareness of steaming services, with nine in 10 people having heard of the offering, ahead of ITV Player and LoveFilm, writes Mark Terry.


Your Film, YouTube

youtube_yourfilmYouTube has partnered with airline Emirates, Ridley Scott Free Productions and the Venice Film Festival to create an online film fest, writes Mark Terry.

The Your Film Festival is a global contest to find a single filmmaker who will get a cool half a million dollars’ worth of production grant. Participants need to submit their short – 15 minutes or less – story-driven videos to the dedicated YouTube channel. The viral-video outfit says all genres and formats are welcome, including live action, animation, documentary, web-series episode and TV pilot.


Now screening on Facebook

Lions Gate has made the film Abduction for rental on Facebook to coincide with its release on DVD, Blu-ray and for download. The movie costs $3.99 for a 48-hour viewing window. Users will also get to see an exclusive interview with Abduction actor Taylor Lautner as well as send clips of the film along with comments to friends on the social network.
