Socialising SXSW with the branded apps

  • Sharebar

chevySocial chevy. Chevrolet has launched three social media apps at SXSW to pilot test emerging technologies aimed at helping the brand connect with consumers.
For one, the motor marque has partnered with Austin-based social networking outfit Gowalla so that visitors to the megafest can let their friends and followers know exactly where they are via their smartphones. When users check in at different locations they will receive messages and SXSW offers from Chevy.
SXSWers can also download the iReveal app to view 3D models of Chevrolet vehicles. The application inserts the virtual image of the car over the actual streetscape seen through the smartphone lens.
Chevrolet is also using Quick Response codes to showcase vehicles such as the Camaro, Volt, and Cruze. When users photograph these models with their phones, the codes will launch dedicated microsites with key features of the vehicles.
Chevrolet has been providing vehicles for eight teams participating in a road rally, See the USA in your Chevrolet: A SXSW Road Trip. Teams are driving to Austin from across the US, completing missions selected by followers on Twitter.
