Selling the film frame
Look out for The Tunnel, a crowdfunded film from a pair of Sydney-based filmmakers called Distracted Media. The duo have tagged the venture The 135K Project… because they’re aiming to raise A$135,000 to get the movie made.
To date, the production pot has reached around A$4,500, which isn’t bad given that the idea is to get the finance together steadily at just one dollar per frame – 25 bills deliver an entire second of movie (for the record, a minute comes in at A$1,500). Once the 135k has been raised and the film is complete, one frame will be chosen at random and the sponsor of that piece of celluloid will get 1% of the profit delivered by The Tunnel.
That profit could be a long time coming as the makers plan to release it online, for free. Distracted Media, though, says people be surprised at the success of The Tunnel when it comes out later this year.
Oh, we never told you what the film is all about. Well, in 2007 the New South Wales government scrapped a plan to use water in the disused train tunnels beneath a Sydney station. But investigative journalist Natasha Warner led a crew of four into the underground labyrinth looking for a story – until the story found them.
