Samsung aims to WOW the Olympics with youth

samsung messengersBy Steve Mullins. Buzzing blogs. Samsung is on the lookout for young explorers as part of its sponsorship of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. The online Mobile Explorers Contest tasks Canadian teams with coming up with a video that demonstrate their experience and interest in blogs and social networking, plus their ability to ‘seek and generate buzz and generate excitement’ about their country’s hosting of the Games.
Ten teams will be selected by public vote, with the final five chosen by a panel of Samsung judges. The winners will be in Vancouver for the Olympics – along with Mobile Explorers from the US, Russia, China and South Korea – and share the goings-on on the dedicated Samsung website, as well as on their own blogs.
The contest is part of Samsung’s overarching Vancouver 2010 campaign which includes Samsung’s Wireless Olympic Works (WOW), a mobile communications platform specifically developed to keep Olympic officials, athletes, media and fans connected during the Games.
To promote the Samsung Mobile Explorers program, two 30-second clips have been posted on major social networks. “The basic concept for the viral videos is based on humour and to demonstrate how Samsung Mobile Explorers might capture their own WOW moments,” the brand says.
And here, courtesy of Samsung, is the ‘hardest hockey shot ever’ and an ‘awesome ice skating warm-up routine’ to strike anticipation into the hearts of prospective Mobile Explorers.
