Powering the Premiership with tweets

footballSocial match. Manchester City and Chelsea are the most sociable of top-rung football clubs, outpacing Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United in their use of a battery of social media engagement tools such as Facebook, Twitter and blogs, according to Rubber Republic’s Social Media Premiership rankings.
Man City is huge on blogs – bigger than those red shirts from across town, while Chelsea is absolutely pumping on Facebook, and Liverpool powers along with its tweets (see below).
“Although [Manchester City haven’t] traditionally had the biggest supporter base of the Premiership teams, they’ve impressively built strong online ties with their core fan-base,” says Rubber Republic.
But what’s up over at Spurs? Cat got White Hart Lane’s social media tongue?
“At the bottom of the league you’ve got Tottenham who, inexplicably, don’t have any official social media presence at all, which I’d hope will change in the coming months as it’s bizarre for a club to ignore the potential of social media.”
Also among those with no Facebook or Twitter activity are Burnley, Portsmouth and West Ham. And they aren’t having the best of times on the field. That’s way offside, boys. Get out there more online and you might well save your seasons, we say.
