cadenciaRio rhythm. Nike’s Cadência feature doc is making its world online and mobile premiere on the Babelgum video platform. The film explores Rio de Janeiro’s and Brazil’s love of passionate movement, reflected in activities from the traditional pipa (kite) culture to capoiera to football.
And Cadência will explore the rhythm of Brazil with commentary from academics, artists, footballers and ‘O Povo’ (the people) just in time for the month-long FIFA World Cup tournament, beginning 11th June.
‘Rhythm is the true spirit of Brazil, one which plays out dramatically on the international stage when its all-competitive national football team competes for the world’s biggest prize,’ says Babelgum. ‘It is an opportunity to discover the makeup of the city’s communities and an insight to some unique and at times misrepresented phenomena – the unifying effect of sport and culture as it winds up for Carnival, the biggest celebration of the year.’
Nike, involved with the Brazilian national team since 1998, wanted to commemorate the ‘beautiful game’ and commissioned the film as part of a series of events imbued with Brazilian culture.
“The real inspiration for Cadência was to be able to address aspects of Brazilian culture that I had come across after living in Rio for nearly three years,” says the film’s director, Daren Bartlett of Bantam Films.
The trailer is right here.
