Ken turns green over Barbie

Thousands of people have so far seen the heartbreaking clip on YouTube. Posted by Greenpeace, the environmental lobby is aiming to demonstrate that Mattel – the world’s biggest toymaker – is guilty of using packaging derived from Indonesian rainforests to wrap those Barbies up before shipping:
“The paper used in Barbie boxes – like palm oil which we’ve campaigned about in the past – comes straight from the rainforests of Indonesia, home to rapidly vanishing creatures such as orang-utans, and Sumatran tigers and elephants,” says Greenpeace.
“Is it really every young girl’s dream to be responsible for clearing areas of priceless rainforest, accelerating climate change thanks to the resulting emissions and threatening endangered species?”
Soon after Greenpeace launched the video, Mattell shut down the Barbie Facebook page, reported the LA Times. However, the last time we looked it was up and running. On the wall, Red Brown wanted to know, “What’s with all the rainforest destruction, Barbie? I want Eco Barbie.”
