Handmaking the Wallpaper
Times were when magazines used to employ designers to magic up covers. In the days of crowdsourcing, of course, they get readers to do the work for them. Cool design mag Wallpaper has joined forces with Rolex to get the hoi polloi messing around with a special app to come up with the cover on the mag’s August Handmade issue.
The publisher isn’t leaving everything to chance though.
“Creative luminaries James Joyce, Nigel Robinson, Hort, Anthony Burrill and Kam Tang have contributed a wide selection of images, graphics and patterns for you to choose from,” says Wallpaper. “You can scale, rotate, colour and assemble these any way you like to create your masterpiece.”
The design gets made up into the designers very own Handmade cover, and they can then choose from nine different Rolex pieces of advertising creative to complete that personalised issue.
