Emerging markets propel Google+

  • Sharebar

Google+ now has 336 million active users, a 58% spike in the past six months. China, India and Indonesia dominate usage and, globally, 120 million active users have shared photos via the platform, while 108 million have hit +1, according to the Social Platform Adoption Trends 2012 report from GlobalWebIndex.

The research firm points out that emerging markets dominate growth numbers for the big name social networks, with Indonesia, China, South Korea, Philippines and Russia the top five markets for burgeoning ownership and activity on social profiles.

Facebook growth is now entirely driven by new users in markets such as Brazil and India, where social media has become mass market and online penetration is increasing rapidly. There has been a recent decline in the US and other mature markets such as Sweden, Hong Kong and Singapore, says GlobalWebIndex.
