Getting out the youth vote – with YouTube
Cross voting. The German government wants youth to vote. And what better way to get them scribbling on that ballot paper than by hosting a video contest on YouTube and offering free stuff. The Mach Dein X – Zeig, was du kannst und mach dein Kreuz! campaign (Make Your X – show what you can do and make a mark) features a video starring TV star Wolke Hegenbarth and director Zoran Bilic who want young voters to come up with a video in which they make an X.
“However you do it is up to,” says the Deutsche Bundestag. “There are no limits on your fantasy. You can bike, dance, breakdance, paint, sing, rap or do something entirely different – as long as a cross comes out of it.”
Filmmakers have until 22 September to come up with the goods using either a camera, webcam or mobile phone. As long as it’s video it counts. But 30 to 60 seconds, bitte.
The jury comprises Wolke and Zoran. The prizes include a laptop, a camera… or a visit to the German Parliament. Not sure anyone gets to vote on what it is they win…
