Four-wheeled brand creative

Motor art. BMW has tasked Jeff Koons with creating what will be the marque’s 17th Art Car. The artist joins the likes of Andy Warhol, David Hockney, Roy Lichtenstein, Frank Stella and Alexander Calder among the roster of creatives who have worked in the BMW brand.
Koons apparently expressed his wish to work on the Art car back in 2003, and now he gets his chance. What can we expect?
“I always thought it would be an honor to work on a BMW Art Car,” says Jeff Koons. “I look forward to participate in a tradition set forth by such great artists as Calder, Lichtenstein, Stella, and Warhol.”
No clues there. So let’s turn to Frank-Peter Arndt, member of the board for the car maker.
“As manifested in Koons’ latest sculptural work, what unites us is the belief that nothing is impossible,” he says. “Our company and Jeff Koons are drawn to permanent innovation and cutting-edge technology.”
Anyhow, the last artist to tackle the car was Olafur Eliasson who came up with Your Mobile Expectations: BMW H2R project (see below).
