Man City’s social game plan
Fastest-growing English Premier League football club on Facebook this month? That would be super-rich Manchester City, up 10% with an additional 128,000 ‘likes’, according to the latest Premier League social media stats infographic from Freestyle Interactive, writes Steve Mullins.
City have 1.4 million likes which puts them only fifth in the league. Way out in top spot are arch rivals Manchester United with a huge 20.6 million support base on the Social Network. Arsenal rank second with 8.1 million, ahead of Chelsea (7.9 million) and Liverpool (7.6 million).
At the foot of the table are Wigan with a mere 5,300 likes, below Bolton (9,600) and West Brom (11,000).
The Baggies are doing marginally better on Twitter, however, and are the fastest-growing club on the microblog, with 20% growth in December. They’re still only in 16th spot, though, above Manchester United and Swansea… who don’t tweet. Top Twitter club is Arsenal with more than 1 million followers, ahead of Liverpool on 575,000.
Best piece of social media action of the month? Manchester City’s move for the home game with Norwich when the club announced fans could use the #BlueView hashtag and see their tweets displayed on screens around the Etihad Stadium during the match, says Freestyle Interactive.
