cool creative: draw that tee shirt brand

drawing_clubBy Simon Fuller. Sketch off. Hip clothing brand Lazy Oaf loves exploring creativity – and, as evidenced by the funky designs, likes to draw too. So what better way to promote the brand – and its new limited edition Tee shirt collection – than to hold a drawing club?
Last Thursday night saw Soho’s Shorts Gardens host the second annual Lazy Oaf Drawing Club, an event encouraging the public to get out their pens and get drawing. If paper wasn’t good enough, budding artists could scribble all over… helium balloons. And for those out of inspiration, there were live drawing masterclasses from the likes of Rosy Nicholas, Bob London and Zero Ten, including artists who had worked on Lazy Oaf’s range of shirts.
“Each season we like to have an event to launch our new collection and the drawing club was originally a celebration of our SS09 collection,” says Jerry O’Sullivan, events co-ordinator at Lazy Oaf. “However, it was such a great success that we decided to make it an annual event. It aims to bring creatives together and celebrate drawing talent far and wide. As you can see from Lazy Oaf designs, we love to draw so we wanted to share this with everyone else.
“The Drawing Club is a way of discovering new drawing talents and it gives us the opportunity to profile emerging artists to our fans,” adds O’Sullivan. ”We like to run events like this to build a creative force making Lazy Oaf more than just a fashion label.”
Brandwise, the night wasn’t just about Lazy Oaf. While Balloon.co.uk provided the helium, Posca donated pens and Kopparberg was on drinks duty.
“We love Posca pens so thought they would be an ideal sponsor for an event purely focussed around drawing,” says O’Sullivan. “They also happen to be the only pen company who [make pens which] can draw directly onto balloons – part of the events attraction – so this worked out a treat. This is the second year we have worked with Posca and they are also sponsoring a recent drawing competition we have been running online.”
In case you’d like to see the results of all this doodling, pop on down to the Shorts Gardens, where the results of the Drawing Club will be kept on display until 6th June.
