Building the audience… with social media

  • Sharebar

savvySocial savvy. So, just how important is social media to bands? “It’s the fans who are driving the distribution of music,” Susie Moore from BrandRock said at yesterday’s Music 4.5 event in London. … We should embrace it.
“The band will be a total business of people, with maybe a few people working on that band’s music, what that band believes in, its identity and values. It’s like any brand marketing exercise.”
Billy Grant from TwoPointNine, an indie label and management company is big on social media too.
“It’s very important to build audience and build communities,” he said at Music 4.5. “We made records… and before we knew it, we started building out on the British Asian scene and picked up on some of the producers and artists in that scene, and we found a community around it. We tapped into this and used our western marketing experience to build communities.”
Sounds like social media and music make great bedmates, then.
Which is why we at brand-m are hosting an event next month at the IAB in London. It’s called Brands, bands and social media savvy and we’ve invited MySpace Music, Sony Music, KLP, Heartbeats and few others to talk about just what movers and shakers are doing – and will do – in that space.
