BMW’s Art Car goes racing
On track. Not satisfied with appearing at the Pompidou Centre in Paris in June, Jeff Koons will also be doing laps at the Le Mans 24 Hour Race in the same month. Well, at least his Art Car for BMW will.
The artist has just released his preliminary design concept for what will be the motor marque’s 17th Art Car, and he cites racing and graphics, vibrant colors and speed as sources of inspiration.
“These race cars are like life, they are powerful and there is a lot of energy,” says Koons. “You can participate with it, add to it and let yourself transcend with its energy. There is a lot of power under that hood and I want to let my ideas transcend with the car – it’s really to connect with that power.”
